Most of the town of Taro in Miyako City was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake. More than 10 years have passed since the earthquake, and although reconstruction efforts are underway, the people of Taro are actively working to convey the impact of the earthquake and tsunami to future generations.
This includes initiatives such as the Taro Kanko Hotel, the preservation of tsunami remnants and educational programmes on disaster prevention. Get a glimpse of today’s townscape and see the sea walls on a bike ride.
